The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has been in effect in the EU for several years. Then, the next issue came up: what is likely the most-used analysis tool for websites, Google Analytics, has been deemed illegal by both the Austrian and the French data protection authorities. The reason is that Google sends user data to servers in the USA and, even if Google allows companies the option of anonymising this data, it’s not deemed (secure) enough for the GDPR.
Now that France and Austria have asked companies to discontinue Google Analytics, it is only a matter of time before a comparable ruling is made here in Germany. Be prepared and act now!
